Whyte & Mackay Press release

Giving new meaning to the phrase 'spirit in the sky', award-winning whisky, Whyte & Mackay are inviting whisky lovers to visit the world's first pub situated on top of a 150ft crane in Glasgow from 2nd - 6th June 2014.   The cosy pub will also be one of Scotland's smallest while it is open, at 23m2

The wheelhouse of the historic, 107 year old Titan Crane in Clydebank has been transformed into a cosy bar named The Lion's Clyde.  Complete with brick walls, bar stools, pub snacks and friendly barman banter, it's a must visit for all Scots. For a limited time only, Whyte & Mackay fans can book the pub for the perfect after work drink and enjoy spectacular views across the city.

Whyte & Mackay was founded on the docks of Glasgow in 1844 by James Whyte and Charles Mackay. The Lion's Clyde will celebrate the whisky's Clydebuilt past while bringing people together to enjoy a dram and some great conversation.

Entry to the bar will be limited and available on a first come, first served basis to those who pre-book via Whyte & Mackay's Facebook page. This amazing experience will start with fans of the whisky being picked up by a complementary taxi* and after taking a lift right to the top of the crane to enjoy the incredible views, they'll be treated to a dram in the purpose built pub. They'll then have an hour to enjoy the company of up to seven mates.

Steven Pearson, Global Marketing Director at Whyte & Mackay comments: "We're very proud of our Clydebuilt roots and Glasgow's blended history.  The Lion's Clyde is about celebrating the past but also the present by bringing people together to enjoy a dram at their local.  This is a big year for the city and we are immensely proud to call it our home.

"The Titan is an iconic part of the Clyde's history are we're absolutely delighted to work with them on this unique project."

Alan Robertson, Projects Director at Clydebank Re-built and the Titan Crane, said:  "We are delighted to welcome this week Whyte & Mackay to the Titan Crane, Scotland's unique visitor attraction.   It is an opportunity to celebrate with a dram the founding of Whyte & Mackay 170 years ago on the Clyde.   Where better than at the top of the Titan, a great icon of Scotland's shipbuilding and engineering heritage"

*The experience will be available from 4-6 June to over 18s only.  Members of the public can sign up via Eventbite on www.facebook.com/whyteandmackay . Patrons will then be issued with tickets for themselves and up to seven friends.  Taxis will collect patron from within a 10 mile radius of the Crane.  Location to be agreed with event organisers.   Patrons must wear flat shoes.  All patrons will be asked for photographic ID upon entry and anyone under the age of 18 will not be permitted to enter.
