The Titan is open EVERY DAY in July and August
29 Jun 2010
Clydebank's century old Titan Crane will be open every day
during July and August. The towering Titan, the world's first
electrically-driven cantilever crane, is Scotland's most unique
visitor attraction. Visitors can take the lift 150 feet to the top
and, on a clear day, enjoy the amazing views of the
River Clyde, as well as relive Clydebank's shipbuilding past.
"This is the first year the Titan is opening seven days a week
during July and August and we are hoping many more visitors will be
able to come to the Crane", says Eleanor McAllister, the managing
director of Clydebank Re-built, the town's urban regeneration
company which three years ago restored the Titan as an icon for the
town.
"Being on top of the Titan is a great experience for everyone
from very young children to senior citizens", added
Eleanor, "The Titan helped John Brown's build the biggest
ships in the world last century and visitors to the Crane can
capture at first hand a little of the town's proud past and great
shipbuilding heritage."
Clydebank's Titan Crane is open every day from 10 am till 4pm
from Thursday July 1st till Tuesday August 31st. In
September, it will be open only at weekends, Fridays to
Mondays.
Visitors can also take an afternoon boat trip down the Clyde to
the Titan. The MV Cruiser leaves from the Science Centre in
Glasgow most days at 1pm. The two hour journey costs £13.50
including the Titan visit. Details from Clyde Cruises 01475
721281.
